Woman hit by pickup declared dead
Doctors have declared a pedestrian struck by a pickup in downtown Spokane dead, Providence Sacred Heart Medical Center confirmed Friday.
Mary Vedder, 45, remained on life support so her organs could be donated, a nursing supervisor said Friday night.
Vedder suffered a head injury Thursday when she was hit in a crosswalk by a truck making a left turn at First Avenue and Post Street.
Police say it does not appear that drugs, alcohol or recklessness were factors, and the driver has not been cited. An investigation is continuing, police said in a news release.

Shouldn’t the driver be cited if they were making a lefthand turn and hit someone? That is negelgent driving if you ask me.

I’m sorry for the person that made this fattal mistake. But if the woman was in the cross walk when she was hit, how can hitting and killing her not be called reckless? All drivers are taught to stop and look both ways for both pedestrians and autos before making any turns. People need to slow down and actually look!
