UCLA fires track coach
LOS ANGELES – Art Venegas is out as UCLA’s men’s track and field coach after 10 years.
UCLA announced his departure Thursday, one day after his contract had expired.
The Bruins won a Pac-10 team championship and two West Region team titles during Venegas’ tenure. They were fifth in the conference championships and seventh in the regional this season.
“We felt a change in leadership was necessary,” said Glenn Toth, senior associate athletic director.
Venegas declined an offer to stay on as coach of the throwers, Toth said.
