Pirates claim first win

The Moses Lake Pirates finally struck gold in their 20th game.

John Robinson (1-4) pitched seven solid innings and East Valley High product Jye Lanphere homered as the Pirates (1-19) defeated the Spokane RiverHawks 3-1 in West Coast League baseball play at Gonzaga University’s Patterson Field.

Robinson allowed four hits and one earned run, striking out six and walking three.

Lanphere hit a solo homer in the third off Garrett Luippold (1-1). He added an RBI single in the ninth.

The RiverHawks (8-12) tied the game at 1 in the fifth. Clayton Eslick led off with a double and Nik Balog followed with a single to right field. An error on the play allowed Eslick to score.

Moses Lake took the lead for good in the sixth. Chris Casazza had a one-out single, stole second base, took third on Nick Fuoco’s single and scored on a groundout.

The teams play at Moses Lake today and Sunday.
