Balance lacking on health care

The Spokesman-Review

What possessed you to run two negative articles on the front page of your June 28 Business section, attacking two strong principles in the health industry?

On the left, we had an article attacking whether we should try to be healthier. On the right, we had an article attacking the idea of a public health care plan that acts as a competitor to private insurance.

Over 70 percent of the public supports a public health care option. Yet The Spokesman panders to, what – Cathy McMorris Rodgers, our misguided House representative? Next time, publish balanced articles.

Check out the health care horror stories at http://stories.barackobama. com/healthcare. Report real news – that, for instance, just three weeks ago three private insurers testifying at a congressional hearing refused to pledge to stop cutting off customers who end up with actual illnesses.

Health care insurance can be like auto insurance. If everyone has it, the costs are spread across the board and it really does act like insurance against worst-case scenarios.

If private insurers refuse to take the lead, let a public health care option (funded by premiums and subject to free enterprise rules) do the job.

And stop your fearmongering. It’s embarrassing.
