Lake CdA drowning victim identified

The Spokesman-Review
The Kootenai County Sheriff’s Department has identified the person who appears to have drowned Monday night on Lake Coeur d’Alene, north of Arrow Point. Robert J. Meadows, 49, of Post Falls jumped out of a boat owned by Michael J. Kidd, of Post Falls, about 300 yards north of Arrow Point, the Sheriff’s Department said in a news release. Kidd told authorities he threw two different life jackets to Meadows and dove in to help him, but Meadows pushed him away, went below the surface and was not seen again, the release said. Winds were blowing up to 25 miles per hour, and the lake was choppy at the time of the accident. The pair had been at the Carlin Bay Resort and were en route to Coeur d’Alene in Kidd’s 1985 16-foot Bayliner Capri, the release said. Divers searched Monday night but were unsuccessful. Recovery efforts using the side scan sonar will continue Tuesday afternoon or Wednesday morning. The water depth ranges from 125 to 140 feet.
