Kids swimsuits available; donations still needed

Nearly 1,000 swimsuits have been distributed to children for the summer swimming season. Suits are still available, but supplies will not last long.

Spokane Parks Foundation is asking the community to donate swimsuits for kids in need or $15 to give a local child the opportunity to swim at Spokane’s pools during the 2009 season.

For more information, visit www.spokaneparksfoundation.org. Swimsuits can be dropped off Monday through Thursday at the Spokane Parks Foundation office, 315 W. Mission Ave.

Swimsuits are available at: East Central Community Center, 500 S. Stone St.; North East Community Center, 4001 N. Cook St.; West Central Community Center, 1603 N. Belt St.; Peaceful Valley Community Center, 214 N. Cedar St.; Spokane Valley Partners, 10814 E. Broadway Ave.

Food donations earn free parking

Diamond Park ’N Jet, 5602 W. Sunset Highway, and Second Harvest Food Bank are collecting food during July to feed the hungry in Spokane.

Individuals who donate four nonperishable food items will receive a free day of parking, along with a free car wash.

Public service agencies invited to apply for funding

The Spokane Community Development Department announced that public service funding applications are available for the 2010 fiscal year, from July 1, 2010, to June 30, 2011. Up to $150,000 will be allocated among public service and human service agencies to provide benefits to city residents of low and moderate incomes.

Examples of eligible activities are child care, health care, crime prevention, substance abuse counseling, job training, community center operation and activities, recreation programs and other services for youths, families and seniors.

To be eligible, service providers must be a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization or a public agency.

Applications may be obtained by calling the Spokane Community Development Department, Sixth Floor, City Hall, 808 W. Spokane Falls Blvd., at (509) 625-6325.

The deadline for submitting completed applications is Aug. 14 at 4 p.m. No faxed copies will be accepted.
