Fairies reflect small thinking

The Spokesman-Review

I really think The Spokesman has let too many feature writers go and it’s really struggling to stay afloat as a “newsworthy” paper. Sunday morning’s front page and on two pages inside is all about the Fairy Fest in Twisp, Wash.

I’m not saying that isn’t newsworthy, but shouldn’t that have been in the Northwest section? I was really disappointed not to see one bit of news or pictures about the Fourth of July celebrations or just plain old news of the world. Spokane is struggling to be known as a “metropolitan” type of city and our front page and the pages inside is “fairies” cavorting around. This is more small-town Americana.
