Fire destroyed a home in the Spirit Lake area Monday night after fire crews were dispatched initially in the wrong direction, officials said.

The fire was well under way when it was discovered inside the home by residents at 2656 Clagstone Road, said Fire Marshal Wayne Nowacki.

Crews from Spirit Lake Fire District were delayed in their response by a mix up in directions, but Nowacki said that firefighters might not have been able to save the structure even if they had arrived sooner.

No one was injured in the 8:30 p.m. blaze, which is under investigation. Nowacki said the cause appears to have been accidental.
