Man charged in stabbing of ex-girlfriend’s beau

A 24-year-old Spokane man was arrested overnight on one count of first-degree assault following an altercation downtown with his ex-girlfriend’s new beau, police said. Jeffrey B. Beaulac reportedly followed the woman late Tuesday to a Conoco gas station at Second Avenue and Maple Street where she was meeting her new boyfriend. Beaulac got out of his car and confronted the man, and the two wrestled to the ground, Spokane police said. When the boyfriend saw that Beaulac had a knife, he backed away from the fight and got into his car, police said. He then noticed blood on his shirt and a stab wound to his stomach. The victim drove to Sacred Heart Medical Center for the single wound, and police were notified by staff there about 11:30 p.m. Police went to Beaulac’s residence and took him into custody. He was booked into Spokane County Jail.
