Deer Park woman dies in two-car crash

A 73-year-old Deer Park woman was killed Wednesday and four others injured in a head-on crash on Nine Mile Road. The collision occurred about 4 p.m., about a mile south of Charles Road, the Washington State Patrol said. Mary J. Schellhammer was northbound on the highway in a 2006 Toyota Corolla when she failed to negotiate a curve, crossed the center line on a curve and collided with a southbound 2006 Honda Accord. She was taken to Deaconess Medical Center, where she died from as a result of her injuries, WSP said. The driver of the Honda, Sarah L. Wilson, 28, was injured and taken to Deaconess, where she was in serious condition. A passenger, Jennifer Eickstadt, 39, and two children ages 14 and 16 were transported to Sacred Heart Medical Center the hospital with injuries, WSP said. Their conditions were unavailable Wednesday. A 3-year-old passenger was uninjured. The road was blocked for several hours in both directions as emergency crews worked to clear wreckage from site. No charges will be filed.
