Web site features food, drink faves

Combine cars with food and what one usually gets is a quick lunch you can eat with one hand.

Not this time.

Ken Smith, owner of Dave Smith Motors in Post Falls, and his wife Debbie have started the gourmet food Web site www.smithpreferred.com to showcase and sell their favorite food and drinks.

Smith says in a news release their aim is to help people save on products that can be hard to find in stores.

The Web site includes soups, chili and cornbread from Buckeye Beans and Herbs; olive oils, infused vinegars and olives from Coeur d’Alene Olive Oil; wines from Idaho-based TimberRock Winery; coffee and chocolates, including couverture chocolate from Seattle-based Dilettante Chocolates; salsa and pepper jelly from Quinn’s Salsa; and bread and baking mixes from Coy’s Country Northwest.

There will be recipes, too. The site currently features one of Smith’s favorites, Pan Seared Veal Chops with Balsamic Sauce and Cream White Corn Polenta.

Prix Fixe Prime Rib

The Davenport Hotel is offering a three-course prime rib dinner Sunday and Monday evenings.

The “prix fixe,” or fixed price, menu includes a Caesar salad, the Davenport’s slow-roasted prime rib with chef’s special potatoes and locally grown vegetables, and an ice cream sundae for $29.95 (tax and gratuity not included).

A glass of house wine or another beverage and complimentary valet parking are included.

The dinners are available from 5 to 10 p.m. in the Palm Court Grill, Peacock Room and Lobby Fireside of the hotel, 10 S. Post St. Reservations can be made by calling (509) 789-6848.
