Former tribal leader Nicodemus dies at 53

WELLPINIT, Wash. – Former Spokane Tribal Council member Gerald Nicodemus died of cancer last week.

The tribe said Nicodemus, 53, was on the council when the tribe reached a key compact with the state on gambling issues.

He was also instrumental in the negotiations with mining company Teck over pollution in the Columbia River and helped develop the new logo for the Spokane Indians minor league baseball team.
