The Slice: And if she loves it, you’ll get to see Lovett

Lori DeCicio was given two excellent tickets to the July 30 Lyle Lovett concert.

She will use one. And the other will go to the person submitting the best short essay addressing “Why I Deserve to Win Lori’s Other Lyle Lovett Ticket.”

The entry deadline is Monday.

Contact DeCicio, a producer at Corner Booth Media, for rules and guidelines. She’s at (509) 455-3456.

Slice answers: “Our grandchild Alex, who is 3 years old, loves loves loves ‘The Wizard of Oz,’ ” wrote Connie and Gordon Jassman. “He will skip, march and sing to every song in this old 1939 movie, from ‘Follow the Yellow Brick Road’ to ‘We’re Off to See the Wizard.’

“We (grandma and grandpa) think this is very cute. His parents refuse to buy him a copy of the video, saying ‘You can only watch this at grandma and grandpa’s house.’ It drives them insane.”

But it’s not just Munchkins who do that.

“My 20-year-old daughter, Susannah, is notorious for memorizing ALL the lines from any movie she sees more than once,” wrote Steve Gardner.

She also absorbs songs, gestures, facial expressions and accents. Then, when the movie is on again, Susannah essentially performs the whole show.

“Needless to say, this is quite annoying,” said her dad, who noted that Susannah’s friends at college have established rules about what she can watch and when.

“We are a bit more tolerant here at home, and only require that she go into the next room to exercise her ‘talent.’ ”

Gardner admits that, at least in this regard, his daughter has a remarkable memory. “I just wish she could remember to fill the gas tank.”
