Suspects identified in early morning melee

A fight that began at a north Spokane bar festered at a party early Friday morning, then erupted on the other side of the city with two women shot and another punched unconscious. Timothy “Stoney Boy” Lucious, 38, is wanted on two counts of attempted murder, accused of shooting one woman in the chest and another in the arm. Police say that woman was also stabbed by an unidentified woman they believe started the incident with one of the victims at Lefty’s Steak & Sports at 3525 N. Division St. The unidentified woman is still at large. Michael “Mikey Mike” R. Gardner, 23, is wanted for second-degree assault after police say he punched a woman in the jaw, knocking her unconscious. The melee closed the South Perry Street area for several hours after police responded to reports of gunshots near Seventh Avenue about 4:30 a.m. But police soon learned the incident began hours earlier. The victims were joined by two other women at Lefty’s when the argument ensued, and the group saw each other again at a party in the 2200 block of North Denver after Lefty’s closed about 2 a.m., said Lt. Dave McGovern. The five women left in a white car for Grant Park, where one received a call about another party at Hartson and Seventh Avenue. But when the women were driving there, they saw the woman from the earlier confrontations standing with others, two of whom police identified as Lucious and Gardner, near Seventh and Perry. Witnesses reported 10 to 15 people involved in the fight. The two women brawled, and the wanted woman stabbed one of the victims before Lucious shot her in the arm, according to police. When the women tried to flee, they noticed a friend missing and went back for her, but Lucious shot her in the chest, police said. The women went to Deaconess Medical Center, where the woman with the gunshot wound to the chest remains in critical condition. She is expected to survive, McGovern said. Police don’t know what sparked the fight. “The victims either can’t tell us or aren’t telling us,” McGovern said. Lucious and Gardner are considered gang members and are well known to police, according to court records. Lucious has dozens of arrests on his record, including convictions for riot, second-degree assault, resisting arrest and possession of a controlled substance. In 2007, bail bondsmen trying to arrest him on misdemeanor warrants backed off when they realized he was armed, triggering a SWAT team stand off. Gardner has convictions for theft, assault and possession of stolen property, according to newspaper records.
