Man shot in possible gang retaliation

Grant County Sheriff’s officials are investigating a drive-by shooting at a Schawana, Wash., home early Sunday after a 21-year-old man was shot and bullets came within inches of a six-month old child. aA mobile home was shot at eight or nine times while a family slept inside about 3 a.m., officials said. A man inside, Javier Rodriguez, was shot in both legs and is recovering at a Spokane hospital. Authorities believe the shooting may be a retaliatory crime between two Hispanic gangs, and may be connected to an earlier assault on Rodriguez. A 19-year-old man was arrested Saturday after hitting Rodriquez with his car, officials said. Rodriquez stepped in front of his 15-year-old sister and 3-year-old brother to protect them. Luis Alberto Mejia-Nunez was booked into jail on three counts of first-degree assault.
