Inmates fled work camp, officials say
Three prisoners fled an inmate work camp at the Red Ives Ranger Station in remote forests along the Montana and Idaho state line, according to the Shoshone County Sheriff’s Office.
The missing state inmates were identified as: Matthew S. Harris, 26; Garry G. Layman, 36; and Jeffrey A. Whipple, 46. The men were part of a prison work detail helping maintain forest trails, the Sheriff’s Office said. They are believed to have left the camp with large kitchen knives.
The U.S. Forest Service, the Idaho Department of Corrections and the Shoshone County Sheriff’s Office are searching for the men. Contact the Sheriff’s Office with tips at (208) 556-1114.
