A 48-year-old Mead woman died Tuesday night on Spokane’s lower South Hill after a car collided with the motorcycle on which she was riding.

Police said a Mercedes sedan hit the 2007 Yamaha motorcycle just after 7 p.m. at West 4th Avenue and South Browne Street. The male driver of the motorcycle was taken to the hospital and was considered in serious condition with a possible broken back and other internal injuries, according to police.

Names of the victims were not immediately available.

Police arrested the alleged driver of the 2002 Mercedes, 42-year-old Jon A. Strine, booking him into the Spokane County Jail on vehicular homicide and vehicular assault charges.

The collision occurred when the southbound sedan hit the motorcycle, which was traveling east after stopping at a stop sign. Some witnesses reported the sedan was traveling recklessly before the crash, police said.
