Spokane teen accused of DUI in rollover crash

Accident closed Northwest Boulevard in CdA for two hours Thursday

A Spokane teenager was arrested on an aggravated DUI charge in Coeur d’Alene Thursday night after a two-car crash that sent the other driver to the hospital.

Coeur d’Alene police said the 17-year-old was driving quickly on Northwest Boulevard in a Ford Escort when she hit a GMC Jimmy, causing it to overturn and roll. The accident shut down the boulevard for about two hours.

The driver of the 1996 Jimmy, Coeur d’Alene resident Sonya Schy, 36, was taken to Kootenai Medical Center with unspecified injuries.

Police took the teen to Kootenai County Juvenile Detention Center. She was carrying three teenage passengers at the time of the collision, none of whom was hurt.

Schy was turning onto Northwest Boulevard heading northbound when the crash occurred around 8 p.m., police said.
