Rights expansion wrong

The Spokesman-Review

I was disappointed in Gov. Gregoire but not surprised in her signing of Senate Bill 5688. This bill is sold to the public as an expansion of domestic partnership benefits, but in all reality it is seeking to destroy the biblical definition of marriage between one man and one woman. Support Referendum 71, and give people a chance to vote on this issue in November.

As an individual and as a Christian, God calls me to love my neighbor. The Bible does not give that same mandate to government. In Romans 13 it states that rulers are ministers of God. It also calls homosexual behavior, in Romans 1:26-27, shameful, immoral and indecent.

Our government has no business legalizing immoral behavior or, for that matter, expanding benefits to a specific group that practices this type of behavior. No matter how hard people want to try, we cannot make right what God has said is wrong.

Pastors, Christians, concerned citizens, if this bill goes into law, the time for being able to voice your disagreement with the homosexual lifestyle without serious consequences or even jail time may be over.
