Swimming pools to open this month

From Staff Reports

Spokane Valley – Spokane Valley’s three rebuilt swimming pools will reopen later this month, each with its own ceremony and free swimming session.

Valley Mission Pool’s celebration will be June 17, followed by Terrace View’s on June 18 and Park Road’s on June 19. In each case, 2 1/2 hours of free swimming will follow a 2:30 p.m. ribbon-cutting ceremony. Contests, music and games also are planned.

The regular swimming season will begin June 20.

Valley Mission has been converted to a “zero-depth” pool with a bottom that slopes down from ground level, Terrace View now has a “lazy river,” and Park Road has a water slide.

The first official trip down the water slide will belong to the winner of a contest to name the slide. The winner also will receive passes for free swimming at any of the renovated pools.

The contest is open to students of any Spokane Valley school district who are 18 or younger.

Entry forms are available at the city Parks and Recreation Department office at the CenterPlace Regional Event Center, 2426 N. Discovery Place, or on the city’s Web site: www.spokanevalley.org.
