In brief: Lost meth found; suspect arrested

A Spokane man got some good news and some bad news this weekend from police.

The good news: Ziggy’s employees found the item he apparently lost while shopping at the building-supply store Sunday.

The bad news: It was a baggie of methamphetamine, and Ziggy’s called Spokane police.

Christopher C. Wilson, 34, gave employees his name and number after asking about a lost item. That information helped police arrest him after employees checked video footage and saw him dropping the bag by the counter. They found it just minutes before Wilson returned.

“The thoroughness and professionalism of the Ziggy’s store employees, along with the suspect’s as well, made this an easy arrest for the Spokane Police Department,” Officer Kevin King wrote in a news release.

Wilson was booked into Spokane County Jail on one count of possession of a controlled substance.

Driver crashes SUV into Valley salon

Employees of a Spokane Valley hair salon picked up the pieces of the shop after a suspected drunken driver smashed her sport utility vehicle into the business early Monday.

Spokane Valley police said a woman was driving eastbound on Sprague Avenue just before 3 a.m. when she crashed into another vehicle, then slammed into the front of the Fantastic Sam’s hair salon, 13817 E. Sprague Ave.

The late-model Kia SUV traveled completely inside the shop and struck an interior wall separating the salon from an adjoining business. Scott Jamieson, owner of the salon, estimated the crash caused $20,000 in damages to the building and interior furnishings.

Police arrested the woman shortly after the crash.

Suspect held in downtown stabbing

A Spokane man stabbed another man in the neck at a downtown motel early Monday, police said.

Coleby A. Richards, 24, appeared in Spokane County Superior Court via video on one count of first-degree assault about 10 hours after his arrest at the Downtowner, 165 S. Washington St.

Police found the victim, Jason R. Staggs, 28, lying in the parking lot bleeding from the neck, court papers said. A black knife was recovered from the room Richards, the victim and two others had been renting since June 4, police said.

Staggs told police he’d confronted Richards after seeing him verbally abuse their two friends, documents said.

Staggs remained in the Deaconess Medical Center emergency room Monday evening. Richards’ bond was set at $75,000 for the first-degree assault charge, and $2,650 for four warrants, including trespassing and lewdness.
