Keep values personal

The Spokesman-Review

Gloria Sarber has stated that she is disappointed with Gov. Gregoire’s decision to sign Senate Bill 5688 (Letters, June 6). It is her right to personally disagree with homosexuality. However, Ms. Sarber repeatedly quotes the Bible and states religious reasons why each of us should be opposed to homosexuality.

I reviewed Bill 5688 and found no mention of religion. Thankfully, there is a legal separation of church and state in this country and that is how it must stay. I am certain Ms. Sarber wouldn’t want another religion dictating her behavior. Why should her personal beliefs dictate anyone else’s choices?

Withholding rights from a couple because of their sexual orientation is discrimination. I applaud Gov. Gregoire for signing the bill and encourage others to keep the church and state laws separate. I also encourage people like Ms. Sarber to worry less about others’ private lives and more about their own.
