The Slice: Good time for seniors to make a stand

Rathdrum’s Marlene Davis recently attended her granddaughter’s high school commencement.

“Sat through the whole graduation,” she wrote. “Then the principal said, ‘Seniors, please stand.’ ”

So Davis, 73, poked her hard-of-hearing 75-year-old husband and said, “We have to stand.”

And that’s what they did.

“I pulled him up and we and 200 (high school) seniors were the only ones standing.”

Oops.

“Our son was sitting next to us and started laughing,” said Davis. “We did too.”

Oh, well. Congratulations to all the seniors. Both kinds.

You can tell a lot about a person: From his or her behavior in and around revolving doors.

The Slice guesses which are the most common names for married couples around here: 1. Bob and Jane. 2. John and Karen. 3. Steve and Beth. 4. Jason and Jennifer. 5. Tom and Carol. 6. Jim and Mary. 7. Gary and Pam. 8. Stan and Laura. 9. Matt and Linda. 10. Scott and Sue.

Feedback: Slice reader Anne Sanders said the new size of the S-R makes it easier to fit the newspaper into her birdcage. She sent a photo showing the Today section in place, with my mug shot facing up.

Speaking of my mug shot, Sharon Leon said the new picture makes me look like FDR.

Hmmm. Maybe that’s the perfect look for these uncertain times.

You know what I always say: The only thing we have to fear is too many cute-kid items.

Let’s move on.

Today’s Slice question: We all know the expression, “I’d pay to see that.”

Well, OK. What would you pay to see?

I know where the Spokane Police Department could set up a speed trap and write so many tickets that the city’s budget problems would vanish.
