Future leaders clean up highway

Several members of the Freeman High School Future Business Leaders of America group recently spent a day alongside Highway 27 picking up litter that included everything from cigarette butts to headlights.

The group has adopted the stretch from Darknell Road to the Palouse Highway through the Department of Transportation’s “Adopt a Highway” program.

The group donned safety vests and hard hats while performing their task. The participants included Chelsa Ayers, Danny Cossey, MacKenzie DeRuyter, Josh Grandinetti, Stacy Sainsbury, Travis Sorensen, Felicity Weathers, Hanna Weathers and adviser Scott Moore.

Science Award

The East Valley Planned Enrichment Program students recently took the grand prize during a Science Days competition at Silverwood.

The students entered three competitions and received the highest average score among 200 entries from elementary and middle schools. The competitions included a measuring contest using clinometers, an egg drop using only straws and tape, and a poster contest. They earned a trophy and $100 for their efforts.
