All-State games set

The annual Washington All-State Girls Basketball games for schools lower than the 4A level is Saturday at West Valley High School.

The Class B East vs. West game is at 1:30 p.m. The 1A East vs. West follows at 3:30 and 3A/2A East vs. West is at 5:30. The cost is $5 for adults, $3 for seniors and children 12 and younger.

Of the 75 girls participating, 52 averaged double figures in scoring, 15 in excess of 17 points per game. Players to watch include Lake Quinault’s Kellie Sansom, a 5-foot-7 guard who scored points at a 30.8-per-game clip.

She is on the West B team with White Pass’ Mikel Elliott and Tacoma Baptist’s Melanie Shank, both 19.0 scorers. The East B team has five 17-plus scorers led by Inchelium’s Serena Condon (19.5) and Asotin’s Shelby Barnes (19.0).

Cierra Silverthorn of Tonasket (20.0) leads East 1A. All but two of 25 1A players averaged in double figures, including all 11 West players.

The 3A/2A East is primarily a Great Northern League all-star team with the addition of two posts, Casey Kelleher and Deaira Gordon from Ellensburg, 6-1 Erin Richardson from West Valley-Yakima and guard Haley Tank from Hanford. The prolific West team features wing Jessica Madison (21.3 ppg) from Port Angeles, guard Tasha Hollingsworth (20.0) from Capital and Marcel Pounds (18.4) from Bonney Lake.

Baseball

Jeremy Mayo hit a grand slam in the fifth inning and finished with seven runs batted in Thursday as the Kelowna Falcons completed a three-game sweep with a 17-3 win over the Spokane RiverHawks at Elks Stadium.

Andy Hunter, the only pitcher to defeat the Falcons (8-1) this year, took the loss.

Kelowna has won seven consecutive games.

Cody Reeves had three hits for Spokane (3-6).

Spokane begins a two-game series tonight at winless Moses Lake.
