Baseball, softball leagues launch summer seasons

In between rainstorms, Spokane Valley Baseball and Spokane Valley Girls Softball Association summer youth leagues began their seasons.

Most successful in dodging the drops was the baseball Midget League, where American On Site Services from Pasadena Park and George Velis DDS from Chester were victorious in their first two games.

American outscored two foes 30-4, including 12-2 over Spokane Endodontics during which four pitchers combined for 15 strikeouts. Michael Chan fanned eight and was a perfect 4-for-4. A 10-run fourth inning settled the 18-2 win over Valley Instant Printing.

George Velis DDS edged Raycap (Greenacres) 3-2, a two-run first inning holding up. In an earlier 10-3 win over Intermountain Fabricators (Adams), Nate Tesdahl struck out seven in three innings and Daniel Bahr was 2-for-4, scoring twice.

Despite a 10-9 loss, Nathan Awbery of Gibson’s Nursery (South Pines) hit two home runs and drove in five runs.

One round of PeeWee League games was played. Pasadena followed the older team’s lead with a 10-1 victory over McDonald. Jordan Chapman struck out five in two innings. Leo’s Photography (Sunrise) got an eight-RBI effort from Cody Krull, who hit two home runs and a single.

Four pitchers from Liberty Lake’s Blasingame Insurance totaled 16 strikeouts and allowed but two hits in an 8-4 win. Spencer Fall was 2-for-3 with a triple and single driving in two runs. Spokane County Deputy Sheriff’s Association was paced by Noah Whitman’s grand slam home run in a 17-11 triumph.
