Fake dreadlocks part of robber’s disguise, police say

Some wear ski masks. Others pull hoods over their heads. But a man Spokane police say is responsible for three robberies in the last two weeks appears to be taking a different approach to concealing his identity: fake dreadlocks. A robber who stole money from the Grocery Outlet on North Division Street about 9 p.m. Tuesday night matched the description of a robber who hit two locations of The Cash Store, one June 12 at 1509 N. Pines Road in Spokane Valley, the other June 18 at 5920 N. Division Street. “It looks like our same guy,” said Spokane police Lt. Dave McGovern. In the first case, the store clerk said the robber was confident and relaxed, as if he had committed previous robberies. The robber is described as a black man in his late 20s or early 30s. He wore a dreadlocked wig and sunglasses in the first two robberies, and witnesses at the Grocery Outlet said he wore a fake beard, black wig, a black sweat suit and gloves and carried a black bag.
