Construction team sets pace for girls 16U

Home Run Construction opened its Valley Girls Softball Association season with three straight wins in the 16U League.

The East Valley-area team outscored its opponents 42-8 to move atop the conference in its second week. Among the wins was a 15-5 decision over second-place Farrell Spray Services, Charnelle Abrahamson 4-for-4 with two triples, a double and four runs batted in.

Baily Riggin went 3-for-4 with three RBIs. She also homered and drove in three runs in the season opener, and Emily Mauro hit a grand slam homer and struck out 10 in the third victory.

Karli Phillips of Old Country Buffet was involved in three double plays, and Hayley Garrahan of BNSF hit a three-run homer in other games.

OCB and Jewell Excavating got off to 2-0 starts in the 14U League. Jessi Mitchell struck out the first six batters and Kenzi Beuchler had three hits in OCB’s second win.

In other highlights, Kaitlyn Richardson of Estorebyzome tripled in each of two games and Carissa Sdao struck out nine in a victory. Andee Peck hit a grand slam home run in the game won by Baker Construction 19-12 over URM.

OCB improved to 3-0 in the 12U League, half a game ahead of unbeaten Mega Wash (2-0). Hannah Burland scored three times in one win and homered in a second, withstanding Walt’s Mailing’s 16-run last-inning rally.

Lexi Ivankovich hit a three-run triple for Einstein’s, and Ehlana Brake was 3-for-3 for Fast Track Performance.

Six teams have won twice in 10U play, three of them unbeaten. Sydney Jones was 6-for-6 and drove in eight runs during Arby’s 1-1 start, one of several players to have multiple hit games. Elle Hildahl and Alexa Lee each had four hits during the Awardmasters-Rocky Mountain Chocolate game; Amanda Lance was 4-for-4 for Sir Speedy.

Spokane Valley Baseball

Two teams remain unbeaten in the Midget League: American On Site Services (Pasadena Park) and Spokane Athletic Supply (Liberty Lake).

American On Site won 8-3 and 3-1 most recently, Austin Stevens and Conner Stavnes combining to pitch a no-hitter in the latter game. A week earlier, five players, including Stavnes, combined for 15 hits in 17 at bats.

In other highlights, Lucas Fitzsimmons was 5-for-5 with 10 RBIs, two grand-slam homers and a two-run double and closed out a 17-10 win for Spokane Endodontics which improved to 3-1.

Blasingame Insurance (3-0) and River City Pizza (2-0-1) lead the Pee Wee League with four other teams right behind.

Mitchell Axtell struck out six and allowed one hit during a recent victory for the Liberty Lake team. The second-place team from Otis Orchards tied Food Rainbow (Broadway) 8-8, Adam Kirk struck out eight and allowed one run in his three-inning stint.

Carson O’Neill hit a grand slam home run as Autocraft rallied for an 8-7 win. Blake Dickinson of Mark Spear Homeselling drove in five runs and scored three in a 24-4 victory. Ethan Viles pitched three no-hit, no-run innings. Alec Fletcher and Brandon Beck each had three hits for Tom’s Barber Shop. Correy Quin was 3-for-3 with a double for Valley Electric (3-1).

Women’s golf

Honey Conlon had a honey of a week, leading her flights in both MeadowWood and Liberty Lake Women’s 18 Hole golf club competitions.

Tuesday in the Liberty Lake competition, where golfers used the best nine holes they played, Conlon netted 29 to win A flight net competition over the trio of Patsy Lynn, Jan Rooney and Ann Eure, who had 29 1/2.

Wednesday she shot low gross 87 during the MeadowWood portion of her week (both clubs are playing at MeadowWood because of Liberty Lake’s renovation), besting Eure’s 89.

During Liberty Lake Women’s 18 Hole play, Gloria Cash won B flight over Carol Blume, 25 1/2-28 1/2. Lee Sonderman and Louise Newtson tied in C flight with 28. In D flight, Jan Hussey netted 22,and Frances Martin had 23 1/2.

MeadowWood Women’s 18 Hole results included low net by Marie Nelson of 71, followed by Jean Hatcher with 73.

Painted Hills Ladies League: During less than ideal conditions – cold and blustery, Jean Allemand led the way once more, shooting low gross 40 in A flight. Ellen Spalding shot 58 to win B, Julie Harbison shot 61 in C, Virginia Lemmer 72 in D and Nancy Hobbs 66 in no handicap.

Net winners were Sue Greany at 42 in A flight, Bette Divine and Dixie Person with 45s in B, Cathy Diehl and Pat Gore with 42s in C.

Trailhead at Liberty Lake: Allemand also shot 40 two days later to win her second A flight round. Renee Begovich shot 48 in B flight, and Tammy Whitbeck 56 in C.

Net winners were MaryAnne Evans with 31 in A, Dee Elder with 28 in B and Penny Jones with 29 in C. Joyce Jacobs, Iness Walth and Allemand all had chip-ins.

Liberty Lake 9-Hole Ladies: Last week’s medal play winner was Sadie Rueckert, who shot low gross 49 in first flight during the outing at Trailhead. Jacobs netted 36.

Second flight winners were Carol Maycock with 56 and Shirley Byus with 40, both chipping in on the third hole. Cleo Workland shot 64 and Jan Tisthammer netted 46 in third flight.
