Counseling options exist

The Spokesman-Review

In Jet Tilley’s “Extremism breeds violence” (Letters, June 13), she implies that all those who support life are extreme, violent and blind. Why are all those who support life held accountable for the actions of one very sick man?

Planned Parenthood is not the only organization that provides services for those who experience an unplanned pregnancy. Choice Pregnancy Center has three locations (on Ash Street, Pines Street and in Cheney). We provide free pregnancy testing, obstetrics exams, ultrasound, first trimester care, STD testing and long-term pregnancy counseling. We have iPulse for abstinence training, iPath for post-abortive counseling and iHope, our beautiful maternity home (Paula’s House).

We counsel both young women and men. We don’t use fear, intimidation or harassment to change minds. We use education, give ultrasounds, love and prayer in hopes that our clients’ hearts will be open to life. We encourage our clients to choose life. We cannot change their minds, but God can!

While the death of Dr. George Tiller is tragic, why is it that the 60,000 lives he took don’t seem to count? Those 60,000 innocent babies died violently; talk about extreme, tragic and horrific!

I think Jet should take another look in the mirror.

Wow. You're kidding right? How does repeating the false correlation between abortion and breast cancer not constitute the use of fear in your practice? The pages that your web site links to regarding abortions and stds are filled with false, unproven or misleading statements clearly intended to create fear in the reader.

Furthermore, your post-abortive “counseling” is not actually counseling in a professional sense, but rather a bible study course (it says so in the fine print on your web site). While some people may find such a course helpful, it is unethical for your organization to refer to it simply as “counseling.”

I think the biggest problem with your organization, however, is the fact that you do all these things under the misleading moniker “iChoice” or “Choice.” Why is that nowhere in any of your advertising do you state that you are a “pro-life” or “Christian” organization? It seems to me you are not giving people a fair opportunity to choose whether your organization is the right one for them or not.
