In brief: New COPS plans opening at 1889

Spokane COPS will hold a grand opening ceremony Wednesday from 4 to 7 p.m. in the newly formed Greater Spokane COPS in the second floor of the 1889 building, 120 N. Stevens St.

Scheduled to attend the event are Mayor Mary Verner, Spokane Police Department Chief Anne Kirkpatrick, council Chairman Joe Shogan and others.

The ceremony will include live music and displays of a police cruiser, a fire truck, an antique police car and more.

Civic Theatre plans auditions

The Spokane Civic Theatre, 1020 N. Howard St., is holding auditions for two upcoming performances.

Auditions for “The Affections of May” will be held on March 16 and March 17 at 6:30 p.m. in the main stage lobby.

Roles needed include three men, appearing to be between the ages of 35-55, and one woman, appearing to be between the ages of 35-55. Auditioners will be expected to do cold readings from the script.

The play will be on May 8 through May 31.

Auditions for “A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum” will be March 22 at 6 p.m. and March 23 at 6:30 p.m. in the Firth J. Chew Studio Theatre.

Roles needed include 10 to 12 men, appearing to be between the ages of 18 and 70, and 10 to 12 women, appearing to be between the ages of 18 to 65. Participants will be expected to perform a verse and a chorus from a contemporary musical, along with cold readings from the script. Individual sheet music is required, but an accompanist will be provided.

Performances will be May 15 through June 14.

Red Robin gives $26,173 to Behan

The Vanessa Behan Crisis Nursery received a check from Red Robin Gourmet Burgers for $26,173, an amount raised from the restaurant chain’s ninth annual Burgers With a Heart campaign.

From Feb. 9 through 22, 50 cents from every burger sold was donated to the nursery which provides a safe place for children at-risk.

Along with the funds from hamburgers sold, customers could buy a paper heart for $1.

Dinner will help leukemia society

The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society will hold a spaghetti dinner, silent auction and live entertainment event Saturday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist, 127 E. 12th Ave.

Tickets are $10 per person, or $25 per family.
