Does any team learn by winning by 50 points?

The announcing crew of the Gonzaga-South Carolina Upstate game showed me they are “homers.” They showed as much enthusiasm, once the game got out of hand, as if they were broadcasting a game between the Harlem Globetrotters and the Washington Nationals.

Jim Meehan did the same for the print media. He mentioned the other team only once, in his first sentence (“Zags’ sweet sendoff,” March 4). Is this reporting? Who scheduled these guys? A game of this magnitude should have been scheduled in November rather than the first week of March.

From my seat in the front room, it didn’t appear that (coach Mark) Few and his staff were anything more than interested spectators.
