Stench wafting from D.C.

The Spokesman-Review

Perhaps it’s because I grew up on a grade A dairy farm, and was always shovel ready to catch what came my way in the barn and to prevent whatever hit the fan or walls from taking hold, that I was not offended at the Michael Ramirez cartoon titled “Shovel ready.”

Ironically, the same day The Spokesman-Review printed objections over the cartoon, the Wall Street Journal printed an article about “silencing the lambs” with the hope of circumventing sheep belches from polluting the environment with methane gas. There are some things over which you have little control.

I can understand one’s frustration with some of the cartoons printed. I quit The Spokesman-Review over the repeated vitriol of Milt Priggee’s cartoons. Once he was gone, I subscribed again.

What ought to be offensive is the stench of the pork that is making its way through Congress. While living downwind from a pig farm in Minnesota, we commented on the aroma headed our way. The neighbor replied, “That’s the smell of money.” He was right.
