Can’t sugarcoat oil spill
“Broken pipe spills oil into Clark Fork” (Feb. 28) was so sugarcoated that I almost hurled up my breakfast.
It’s nice oil, says Avista’s environmental director, it just floats on top of the water. Yeah, where it depletes oxygen in the water and coats all insect life that fish ingest as food. It will stay in the pools, he says. Yeah, for about five minutes, then proceed downstream to Lake Pend Oreille, a prize fishery of the Northwest.
We need to find out how this was allowed to happen and who’s paying for cleanup. We should be tired of big business cover-ups by now.
