OneEighty buys communications provider

Spokane communications and telephone system provider Tel-West Communications Inc. has been bought by OneEighty Networks, the companies announced in a release.

The terms of the sale were not disclosed. Danny Gibbs, president of Tel-West, said OneEighty bought its assets.

Tel-West has been in business since the 1980s. Gibbs, one of its first managers, bought it from former owner Greg Green 14 years ago. Gibbs will continue as Tel-West division director.

OneEighty is a Spokane-based phone and data service provider and is a wholly owned subsidiary of Orbitcom, a telecommunications company based in South Dakota.

Gibbs said the sale made sense because the companies each provide telephony and data systems to area businesses. Telephony is the technology associated with electronic transmission of voice, fax or other information.

Tel-West has eight employees.

Tel-West’s name won’t change. Like OneEighty Networks, Tel-West becomes a wholly owned subsidiary of Orbitcom, said Derrick Green, director of business development for OneEighty Networks.

A key value gained by the deal, he added, was adding the technology and service crews at Tel-West.

“The acquisition gave us that huge extra advantage of having people to deal with the concerns of the customer,” Green said. “To us, that’s still the most important part of what we do.”
