Inconsistencies cited

The Spokesman-Review

I read Rich Landers article on March 5 (“Nothing humane about it”). I found a lot to agree with.

The conservationists of this country are responsible for the numbers and variety of wildlife seen in this country today. There are many inconsistencies when I read through some of the letters to the editor that followed. Kerry Masters wrote that the PETA president made less money than the RMEF president, and I have to disagree. The Web site Masters uses shows the opposite is true: Newkirk takes three times that of the current RMEF President. The RMEF donates a higher percentage of its money to programs, improving wildlife habitat and land acquisition.

PETA’s and HSUS’ (President Pacelle – $207,000) programs don’t set aside any land for wildlife and they don’t improve habitat. Instead, they spend money on elaborate advertising campaigns with models shunning fur.

Spokane has its own wildlife rehabilitation center in Mead, built as an Eagle Scout project with help from members of the Inland Northwest Wildlife Council – a group that is made up of many hunters, anglers and other conservationists. When you take this into consideration, it’s easy to see which side is really helping our wildlife.
