College choir to sing Sunday at Nazarene church

The Crusader Choir will sing at Spokane First Church of the Nazarene, 9004 N. Country Homes Blvd., on Sunday at 9 a.m. and 11 a.m.

The 48-voice choir from Northwest Nazarene University in Nampa, Idaho, will perform traditional and contemporary sacred music and is directed by Barry Swanson.

More concerts and performances

Our Place Community Ministries will present its annual readers’ theater fundraiser Sunday at 2 p.m. at Salem Lutheran Church, 1428 W. Broadway.

The play, “Opal’s Baby,” is a comic look at how the less fortunate are treated by society.

Tickets are $15 and include a refreshment buffet. There will also be prizes.

•The Spokane Melody Singers – Men of Faith will perform at Moran United Methodist Church, 3601 E. 65th Ave., during the 10:30 a.m. worship service on Sunday.

The group was formed in 1926 by barber Bill Parks. The group features 25 men of different denominations.

Lenten activities

Covenant United Methodist Church, 15515 N. Gleneden Drive, continues its Lenten movie series, “Movies that Make Us Think Again,” Sunday at 5 p.m.

•The public is invited to labyrinth walks at Central United Methodist Church, 518 W. Third, Wednesdays during Lent, until April 8.

Participants can enter the church through the glass doors and follow the signs to the gym from 5 to 6:30 p.m. The path is a time for walking and meditation.

Call to Action-Spokane will continue its Sunday Lenten speaker series Sunday at 3 p.m. in the Jesuit House Chapel on the Gonzaga University campus, 502 E. Boone Ave.

This week’s speaker is Catherine L. Siejk who will speak on the topic “Jesus as a Person Who Included Everyone.”

Seminars and retreats

Gonzaga Prep will host “A Taste of the Spiritual Exercises,” Saturday from 9 to 11 a.m. in the Chapel of the Three Companions on the school campus.

The mini-retreat will introduce participants to the spiritual exercises of St. Ignatius and will include praying, imagining, meditating, reflecting and being quiet with God.

•The Inner Journeys Center, 334 S. Grant, will present two radical forgiveness ceremonies Saturday and March 28 from 1 to 4 p.m.

The ceremony is based on a Native American sacred healing circle.

Fun stuff

•The teachers at St. Patrick Catholic School will work behind the counter at McDonald’s, 4436 N. Division, Wednesday from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. to raise funds for the school.

McTeacher Night will donate 20 percent of the sales during that time to St. Patrick School.

New headquarters

The Upper Columbia Conference of Seventh-day Adventists lost its headquarters in Airway Heights to a fire in December.

The group celebrated its temporary headquarters with an open house this week at 15918 E. Euclid Ave., Spokane Valley. The group is planning to rebuild at its location in Airway Heights.

The building houses various ministries and departments and the Adventist Book Center.
