Wheelchair games seeking volunteers

Volunteers are needed for the 29th annual National Veterans Wheelchair Games scheduled in Spokane July 13 through 18. The event is the largest annual wheelchair sporting event in the world and more than 500 athletes are expected to participate in the competition sponsored by the Paralyzed Veterans of America and the Department of Veterans Affairs.

The six days of competition will feature 17 events, including quad rugby, archery, swimming and track and field events. Admission to the event will be free to the public.

Volunteers can select which events they would like to help with and which days they can be available. Volunteers will receive a T-shirt. Contact Kathy Kovalesky at (509) 434-7510 to sign up by April 1.

Spokane Valley

MDA lockup today at Shumate

Shumate Harley-Davidson, 6815 E. Trent Ave., will host the Muscular Dystrophy Association’s Spokane Valley Executive Lock-Up today, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Area business and civic leaders will be arrested by Spokane Valley Firefighters at their place of business and taken to Shumate Harley-Davidson in MDA paddy wagons, provided by Dishman Dodge. The business and civic leaders raised money for their bail before their arrest.

The bail money will free the jailbirds and will be donated to MDA, helping local families dealing with neuromuscular disease.

Dance camp for kids starts March 30

Spokane Parks and Recreation will continue its spring workshops with the Spring Break Dance and Performing Arts Camp, for kids ages 9 to 14, March 30 through April 3.

Kids can learn hip-hop, break dance, jazz, tap dance and Scottish/highland dance during spring break. The dance camp will be held at the Woman’s Club of Spokane, 1428 W. Ninth Ave., from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Cost is $159 for the week.

Half-day camps at Corbin planned

The Corbin Art Center will host the Corbin Kids Half-Day Creative Adventure Camps, from March 30 through April 3, for ages 6 to 11. The camps are in two shifts, 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and 12:30 to 4 p.m.

Kids will have the opportunity to do creative crafts and play games.

Cost is $65 and pre-registration is required.
