Victim in deadly crash identified; witnesses sought

The fiery crash on Seven Mile Road Thursday night that killed a Spokane Valley man was caused by the man crossing the center line in a 2006 Jaguar and colliding with an eastbound 2004 Ford pickup, the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office said today. The deceased driver has been identified as Jason Dungan, 30. The driver of the pickup, David L. Ettenberg, 44, suffered a “severely injured” ankle as he was pushing the brake, according to the sheriff’s office. The Jaguar was westbound near Inland Road when it collided with Ettenberg’s pickup about 8:45 p.m., despite Ettenberg moving “as far to the right as a guardrail would allow,” the sheriff’s office said. The deceased driver’s legs were pinned beneath a collapsed dashboard, and off-duty Spokane Police Officer Glenn Bartlett suffered cuts to his hands and arms as he tried to pull the man from the burning vehicle. Detectives are looking for witnesses to the crash. Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Check at (509) 456-2233.
