The Musketeers stifled Portland State’s usual barrage of 3-pointers and hit 8 of 19 long-range shots.

Trevon Hughes banked in a spinning shot over two defenders for a three-point play with 2 seconds left in overtime to lift the Badgers over the Seminoles.

FSU’s Toney Douglas finished with 26 points. His 3-pointer with 1:16 left gave the Seminoles a 59-56 lead, but it wasn’t enough to prevent a loss in their first tournament appearance since 1998.

At Dayton, Ohio

Byron Eaton found a clear path to the basket for a three-point play with 7.2 seconds left, sending the Cowboys over the Volunteers.

Tyler Smith had a chance to win it for Tennessee, but his jumper from behind the arc hit the side of the rim and bounced up to the top of the backboard as the buzzer sounded.

DeJuan Blair had 27 points and 16 rebounds as the Panthers, playing their first game as a top seed, survived a frightful 40 minutes from the Buccaneers.

The Panthers made 18 turnovers while struggling with ETSU’s end-to-end press.

At Miami

3 Syracuse (27-9) 59

14 Stephen F. Austin (24-8) 44

Jonny Flynn scored 16 points, Rick Jackson and Arinze Onuaku each added 12 and the third-seeded Orange cruised past NCAA first-timer Stephen F. Austin.

Syracuse ran out to a 20-4 lead, never letting the Southland Conference champions get anything going.

James Harden’s only basket, a 3-pointer with 4:02 left, helped the Sun Devils hold off the Owls and reach 25 wins for the first time since 1975.

Junior Derek Glasser scored a career-high 22 points and Jeff Pendergraph also had 22 for the Sun Devils.

Dionte Christmas scored 29 to lead Temple.

At Dayton, Ohio

The Cardinals had a few early missteps, but uncoiled their full-court press in the second half and rolled to an easy victory over the Eagles.

Samardo Samuels led Louisville with 15 points.

Ronald Moore hit a 3-pointer with 3.9 seconds left in the second overtime – from the identical spot he made one at the end of the first OT – as the Saints beat the Buckeyes.

Evan Turner missed a leaner from 15 feet that would have forced a third OT for the Buckeyes, who blew an 11-point lead in the second half of regulation.

At Miami

Nic Wise scored 21 of his 29 points in the second half, Chase Budinger added 20 and the Wildcats proved they belonged in the field of 65 by stomping the Utes.

Jordan Hill added 17 points and 13 rebounds for Arizona, which has been in the NCAAs 25 years in a row.

The Vikings raced to an early 17-point lead and stunned the one-time No. 1-ranked Demon Deacons, reminding fans of when the Vikings upset Indiana in the opening round of 1986.

Norris Cole scored 22 points for the Vikings. Cedric Jackson, who played his freshman year at Medical Lake High, added 19 points and eight assists.

At Minneapolis

Sherron Collins scored a season-high 32 points and Cole Aldrich had 23 points to lead the Jayhawks.

The Bisons’ Ben Woodside played all 40 minutes and scored 37 points.

Taj Gibson had 24 points on 10-of-10 shooting from the field, sending the Trojans past the Eagles.

Lazar Hayward scored 26 points and the Golden Eagles made 10 straight free throws down the stretch to win.

Jerel McNeal and Wesley Matthews each scored 14 points for Marquette, which blew a 14-point lead before rallying from a six-point deficit to knock out the Aggies.
