Coverage disappoints

The Spokesman-Review

I woke this morning (March 18) eager to read the sports page.

Despite the Cougars’ defeat on Tuesday at Saint Mary’s, I had hoped The Spokesman-Review would help ease my pain. Although I knew the headline could be harsh, I understand that the news needs to be reported – the Cougs lost, after all.

However, I was expecting a picture of the Cougars’ seniors, the group that helped usher in a new era of basketball on the Palouse. I was ready to see a picture of a defeated Taylor Rochestie, who was willing to forgo his scholarship a year ago to give the Cougs a new start. I wanted a picture of the boys who, in part, helped change it all in Pullman, even in defeat. This team may have lost to the Gaels, but it won our hearts. Instead, I got a life-size picture and headline of Patty Mills.

You would have served your constituents better by supporting this heartbreaking loss for the Cougs with pictures of Cougs. As a loyal Coug, I consider your coverage a big slap in the face when we needed to recognize the end of the road for this particular group of Cougars seniors.
