Shadle Park slips past Wildcats

Shadle Park took advantage of Mt. Spokane’s inability to cash in on several early scoring opportunities Saturday afternoon and hung an 8-3 Greater Spokane League baseball loss on the host Wildcats.

The Highlanders (2-0) banged out eight hits and scored five runs in the fourth inning, making Mt. Spokane (0-2) pay dearly for leaving the bases loaded – without scoring a run – in each of the first three innings.

Taylor Raynor had a two-run double in the fifth for Shadle.

In other GSL action, Craig Keeton, Tony Tabish and Jacob Olsufka each drove in three runs for University (2-0), which pounded out 14 hits in an 18-3 romp over visiting Gonzaga Prep (0-2). Olsufka hit a pair of doubles and also scored three runs for the winners.

In Inland Empire League play, Lewiston swept a doubleheader from visiting Coeur d’Alene, 14-12 and 9-5. Lewiston’s Kyle Knigee supplied the big hit in the nightcap when he stroked a bases-loaded triple in the Bengals’ five-run third inning. In the opener, Lewiston took advantage of three walks and two hit batters to put together a seven-run sixth inning and then survived a big CdA rally in the seventh when the Vikings’ J.J. Turbin lined out to center field with the bases loaded.
