Arrest made in Spokane Valley hit-and-run

A 22-year-old Spokane Valley man was reported in critical condition today, and another man was taken into custody as the result of a hit-and-run incident Sunday night in Spokane Valley. The injured man was struck from behind while walking with a companion in the 10100 block of East Mission Avenue and was being treated for a severe head injury at a Spokane hospital, said Sgt. Dave Reagan for Spokane Valley Police. The name of the victim was not released. He was walking with a friend eastbound on the shoulder of Mission when he was struck. “The impact ripped the victim from his shoes and tossed him an estimated 20 to 30 feet,” Reagan said in a press release. Police later arrested Gregory E. Sutton, 27, after finding him and a 1994 Chevrolet Blazer believed involved in the incident at an apartment complex in the 11000 block of East Augusta Avenue. He was arrested on suspicion of felony hit-and-run, Reagan said. Investigators said Sutton was on community supervision from the state Department of Corrections and that he is suspected of having been consuming alcohol. His driver’s license had been suspended, Reagan said.
