Superstars may align in NBA

LeBron James on South Beach? Dwyane Wade in Cleveland?

Both of them in New York?

James raised the possibility Sunday of the MVP candidates playing together somewhere after he was asked a question about the friendly rivalry between the U.S. Olympic teammates.

James was asked if he’d prefer they both stay in the same conference, so they could play against each other more often, or end up in different conferences, so they could compete against each other for championships.

“I don’t know, it doesn’t matter,” James said before the Cavaliers’ game against the Nets. “Whatever happens, we’ll go against each other, and maybe we’ll go against each other in practice. I don’t know, that’d be fun, wouldn’t it?”

James, Wade and Chris Bosh of Toronto, all of whom came into the league in 2003, can opt out of their contracts in 2010. The Olympic teammates have said they’ve talked about the idea of playing together in the NBA.

No change yet to OT in NFL

Fans overwrought by the NFL’s overtime system won’t be getting any relief this year.

Overtime isn’t likely to be discussed at the league meetings that began Sunday in Dana Point, Calif., after the NFL competition committee came up with no proposals to change it.

The players themselves support the current system – coin flip and all – so the owners will consider other issues: rules changes regarding player safety; the collective bargaining agreement with the players; and the state of the economy.

In 2008 43 percent of overtime games were won on the first possession by the team that won the coin toss.

Report: A-Rod dated madam

Was Alex Rodriguez client No. 13?

A high-priced former madam who used to provide prostitutes for former New York Gov. Eliot Spitzer provided the same services for the Yankees’ Alex Rodriguez and dated him, the New York Daily News reported Sunday.

Former madam Kristin Davis, who served three months in jail and is on five years’ probation after pleading guilty to promoting prostitution, would speak only in generalities when reached by Newsday on Sunday.

“All I can say is there is a connection,” she said when asked about A-Rod. She declined to comment on the specific allegations, saying she does “not talk about my personal life or who I date.”

Davis, who is peddling a memoir on her Web site, www.manhattanmadam.com, says on her Web site that her service had a “roster of 10,000 rich, powerful and famous clients.”

In the Daily News story, she intimated that she was personally wooed by Rodriguez.
