Ashley Walker scored 20 of her career-high-tying 32 points in the first half, and Cal used its strong inside game to rout Virginia, sending the Golden Bears to the NCAA tournament’s final 16 for the first time in school history.

Devanei Hampton had 22 points and 11 rebounds and junior Alexis Gray-Lawson added 22 points for California.

Jantel Lavender had 20 points and Ohio State scored its final 10 points on free throws to beat Mississippi State.

Star Allen added 12 points and 10 rebounds for Ohio State.

Tysheka Grimes scored 20 of her 22 points in the opening half for Mississippi State, which was seeking the school’s first trip to the Sweet 16.

Freshman Nnemkadi Ogwumike dominated inside with career highs of 27 points and 13 rebounds to lead the No. 2-seeded Cardinal to a win over San Diego State.

Ogwumike was 8 of 10 from the field and 11 of 13 from the line.

Jayne Appel had 12 points and 11 rebounds for Stanford before fouling out with 6:42 left.

Jennifer Risper scored a career-high 27 points and Christina Wirth added 24 as fourth-seeded Vanderbilt beat fifth-seeded Kansas State.

Ashley Sweat led the Wildcats with 17 points while Marlies Gipson scored 16 and Shalee Lehning had 10.

Lindsay Wisdom-Hylton and Brittany Rayburn led five Boilermakers in double digits with 18 points apiece, and sixth-seeded Purdue beat third-seeded North Carolina.

Lakisha Freeman scored 16 points for Purdue.

North Carolina senior Rashanda McCants went 3 of 15 for six points. Italee Lucas led the Tar Heels with 21 points, and Jessica Breland added 15.
