Gonzaga rallies, tops Dons

Gonzaga scored twice in the ninth inning to rally for a 6-4 West Coast Conference baseball victory in the series finale with host San Francisco on Sunday.

Jason Chatwood drove in the game-winning run on a squeeze bunt with runners on first and third. Another run came across later in the inning on an error.

Drew Heid had three hits for the Bulldogs (17-7, 2-1), and Mark Castellitto and Ryan Wiegand each had two hits and two RBIs. Cody Martin (3-1) earned the victory with 2 2/3 innings of scoreless relief.

Gonzaga plays Washington in Seattle on Tuesday and Wednesday.

•California took advantage of two errors, a balk and a hit batter to score four unearned runs in the sixth inning en route to an 8-2 Pac-10 victory over Washington State in Berkeley, Calif.

The Cougars (10-12, 2-1) won the first two games of the three-game series.

Jared Prince (1-2) took the loss for Washington State. Derek Jones homered for the third straight game for the Cougars.

WSU begins a five-game homestand Friday with a 5:30 p.m. game against UCLA.

•Stanford’s Brett Mooneyham allowed one hit over seven innings as the Cardinals beat Washington 11-0 in Stanford, Calif.

Mooneyham (1-1) struck out seven and walked three, taking a no-hitter into the sixth inning.

Tyler Cheney (2-2) took the loss for the Huskies (10-14, 1-2 Pac-10), allowing five runs on five hits in 2 1/3 innings.

Softball

Missy Penna shut out the No. 2 Huskies (28-5, 1-2 Pac-10) for the second straight game as No. 3 Stanford won 2-0 in Palo Alto, Calif.

Washington’s Danielle Lawrie (19-3) held the Cardinal to two hits, but the Huskies lost consecutive games for the first time this season. One of the hits was a two-run home run by Shannon Koplitz.

•The Northwest Conference doubleheader between George Fox and Whitworth in Spokane was canceled because of snow accumulation at Whitworth’s Diana Marks Field and cold temperatures. The games will not be made up.

Golf

Washington State’s women’s golf team finished in a three-way tie for 14th place at the Mountain View Collegiate tournament in Tucson, Ariz.

The Cougars’ 1-over 289 score Sunday was tied for the best team score of the day.

Amy Eneroth finished tied for 18th, her 35th career top-25 finish. She shot an even-par 72 on Sunday for a three-round total of 5-over 221.

Rowing

Gonzaga’s men’s rowing dominated on the second day of the Pac-10 Challenge in Redwood City, Calif., defeating UCLA in three races.

The Bulldogs beat the Bruins in the Varsity 8+, Junior Varsity 8+ and Freshman 8+ by an average of 18.5 seconds.
