CV edges Wildcats in eighth

Central Valley scored two runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to escape with a 2-1 victory over Mt. Spokane in a Greater Spokane League softball game Thursday at CV.

The Wildcats (8-7) took a 1-0 lead in the top of the eighth on Kaylene Petersen’s two-out homer.

The Bears (13-2) rallied in the bottom of the inning starting with Jamie Belknap’s leadoff single. Belknap went to second on a passed ball and tied the game on a single by Gen Aman.

Aman went to third on a sacrifice by Chrystal Holt and scored on Alexa Morales’ sacrifice fly.

•Also in the GSL: Shaina Marvel had a two-run triple as league-leading University (14-1) scored four runs in the bottom of the fifth to rally past third-place Mead 9-7 at U-Hi. Emma Barrington went 2 for 4 and scored twice for the Panthers (10-5), who fell into fourth. … At Gonzaga Prep, Kelsey Green of the Bullpups (5-11) struck out eight and gave herself the win with a RBI single in the bottom of the seventh for a 2-1 decision over East Valley (7-9). … Cheyenne Delarosa drove in Angela Rout with a single in the top of the sixth inning as visiting North Central (7-9) edged Lewis and Clark (5-11) 4-3 at Hart Field. … Taylor Powell, Elizabeth Roginski and Katelyn Harvey smacked home runs as Shadle Park (11-4) rolled past visiting Rogers (1-14) 9-1.

Great Northern League: At Clarkston, Justin Robinett scored unassisted in the 68th minute as the Bantams (7-6, 6-6) scored a 2-1 win over West Valley (6-7, 6-6). … At Medical Lake, the Cardinals (8-6, 7-5) scored four times in the shootout and held Pullman (8-3, 8-5) to one for the 1-0 upset. … Kit Major scored on a header as he fell to the ground and did a somersault in the 68th minute to lift Riverside (5-8, 5-7) to a 3-2 victory over visiting Deer Park (5-8, 4-8). The Stags took a 2-0 lead in the first half on goals by Seth Nelson and John Bloss before Brian Scott’s penalty kick started the comeback early in the second half. Joey Nyberg’s goal tied the game in the 46th minute. … Xavier Day and Austin Walker scored goals 3 minutes apart midway through the second half at Colville (1-11, 0-11) as league-leading Cheney (11-2, 11-1) won 3-0. Walker, who assisted Day in the 64th minute, also scored in the first half.
