Bloomsday facts: Today and beyond

Number pick-up: Race numbers can be picked up at the trade show today from 9 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. The show is in the Group Health Exhibit Hall at the Spokane Convention Center.

Street closures: The start area on Riverside Avenue between Lincoln and Post streets will close to traffic at 5 a.m. Sunday. The surrounding streets close at 7 a.m., and the rest of the course closes at 8:15 a.m. The Monroe Street Bridge will close at 5:30 a.m. and the Washington couplet closes at 7 a.m. Motorists traveling north and south are encouraged to use Maple, Division or Hamilton streets. The streets in the downtown core will reopen about 11:30 a.m. and the remaining streets will reopen about 2 p.m.

Free bicycle parking: The Spokane Bicycle Club will provide a free “bike corral” Sunday for Bloomies who travel to the race on bicycle. The secure, monitored area is in Riverfront Park, south of the YMCA, and is open from 7:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

Weather: High pressure and fair weather across the region today are not going to last. A Pacific low pressure area is forecast to encroach on the region later today in time for Bloomsday. Highs today should reach the upper 60s with increasing clouds. By evening, the system will have sent enough moisture into the area to trigger rain overnight. The National Weather Service expects a relatively dry period early Sunday that may coincide with the race. Dawn on Sunday should bring temperatures in the middle 40s but warming to near 50 by the 9 a.m. race time.
