CDC confirms one swine flu case in Idaho

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has confirmed that a 60-year-old Kootenai County woman has been infected with H1N1 flu. According to the Panhandle Health District, the woman became ill after a recent trip to Texas. She has been recovering at home. The woman, who represents the first confirmed case of swine flu in Idaho, is retired and has had limited contact with other people since she began feeling ill, health district officials said. Spokane Health District spokeswoman Julie Graham said Sunday there has been no such confirmation for the two probable cases in Spokane County. “But the CDC has told us that more than 95 percent of tests results they’ve looked at have been positive for the swine flu,” she added. Ten more probable cases of swine flu were reported in Washington state on Sunday, bringing to 35 the number of probable cases in five counties. The new probable cases reported by the state included six in King County and four in Snohomish County. The local health department for Seattle and King County reported one additional probable case. None of the cases reported by the state had been confirmed, but state Health Department spokesman Tim Church said formal test results should be received from the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention early this week. He said the state’s lab continued to test samples over the weekend. The state figure includes cases in which samples were sent to the state lab for testing, and then sent to federal health officials for positive identification. In British Columbia, Michelle Stewart of the B.C. Health Ministry said seven new cases were reported, bringing the total of confirmed cases in B.C. as of Sunday to 29. Oregon reported three confirmed cases, with another 19 probable cases.
