Stroller Strides of Spokane – Exercise group for moms and their babies, using resistance bands, strollers and the environment for a total body workout. Building Healthy Neighborhoods 5K Fun Run and Walk – Participants must register by Thursday to guarantee T-shirt size; cost is $15. Fun Run and Walk is May 23, beginning at 9 a.m. at the Spokane Convention Center and looping along the Centennial Trail through Gonzaga University’s campus before ending downtown. Be Healthy to the Bone Series – Classes will offer techniques for preventing and managing osteoporosis. Participants can assess their personal risk factors for low-bone density, understand basic bone biology – including the influence of hormones, nutrition and physical activity, learn what food and lifestyle choices promote or damage bone health, discover and practice exercises that benefit bone health, and find out how bone health and fracture risk are assessed and about the various medications used for treatment. Monday: “Facts about Osteoporosis and Bone Biology,” 2-3:30 p.m. May 22: “Assessing Bone Health; Medical Management and Treatment of Osteoporosis,” 2-3:30 p.m. A representative from the pharmaceutical company Sanofi-Aventis will perform complimentary bone density screenings from 1-5 p.m. both days. “Scramble to Defeat ALS” Breakfast Fundraiser – Hosted by the ALS Association Evergreen Chapter. Guest speaker will be Jenny Hoff, who will share her experience living with ALS.
