At last, after a long winter, it’s finally golfing season in North Idaho, and once again older guys get a break. The North Idaho Senior Men’s Golf Association has scheduled a series of games at 11 courses for male golfers 55 years of age and older. The courses have reduced green fees and cart rentals for the group. Annual association membership is $25, and the money is used to fund an end-of-season banquet on Sept. 11 at the Elks Lodge on the Sandpoint Golf Course. The following events are scheduled: COURSE DAY/DATE GREEN FEE CART RENTAL Ranch Club Wed. May 13 $20 $20 Twin Lakes Wed. May 20 $24 $26 Pinehurst Thurs. June 4 $15 $22 Mirror Lake Tues. June 16 $22 $20 Prairie Falls Friday June 26 $24 $28 Stoneridge Friday July 10 $37 (Includes cart, range balls) Avondale Monday July 27 $30 $28 Highlands Friday July 31 $23 $26 Shoshone Monday Aug 10 $18 $24 Sandpoint Elks Friday Aug. 18 $20 $20 The Links Monday Aug. 24 $18 $26 Tee times for all events but the one at the Highlands will be at 9 a.m. That Highlands contest will begin at 8:30 a.m. Most courses charge a trail fee to those who bring their own gas or electric carts. Individual and team championship contests will be on Wednesday Sept. 2 at the Links. Norman Robbins, the secretary-treasurer for the 130-member group, said membership is not restricted to Idahoans and, “We’d welcome any senior male who wants to play.” He said 70 to 80 players usually show up at the 18-hole courses, and 50 to 70 at the 9-hole courses. Each of the North Idaho courses has a representative of the organization to which the membership fee should be given. But if one can’t be located, the money can be brought to the first course played or sent to Robbins at 1305 Larch St., Sandpoint, ID 83864.
